About this collection
The first sign is rarely a disclosure. It's a stomach ache before every test, a pupil who disappears after lunch, a paragraph rewritten for the fifth time or a run of Monday absences. Staff often worry about saying the wrong thing, so they say nothing.
The courses take the common mental health difficulties in children and young people one at a time, including anxiety, low mood, eating disorders, OCD and self-harm. For each you'll learn the signs and how to open a conversation without making a young person defensive. You'll also learn what helps in school, from grounding during a panic attack to a graduated return plan for a pupil who can't face coming in.
Each course also gives you practical ideas to pass on to parents and carers, so the support carries on at home.

- Put everyday support in place in school, from safe spaces to graduated return plans
- Know when to refer, and how to support a pupil while they wait
- Give parents and carers practical ideas to try at home
