For school administrators

How do I set a course for staff?

Go to Manage, then Training plan, and press "Assign courses". The page asks you four questions.

  1. Which course? Search for a course or choose a subject. You can pick more than one.
  2. Who? Everyone, one or more groups, or chosen people. In a trust you can also choose schools, or people with a particular job title at the schools you tick. Staff who haven't signed in yet are included.
  3. How often? Choose Once, and everyone does it by one deadline. Or choose "Keep staff up to date", and each person does it again when it's due.
  4. Already done it? (for Once) Choose "Skip anyone who did it in the last 12 months", or another period, or "Everyone takes it, whatever they've done before". The page tells you how many people that leaves.

With Once, tick "New starters too" if people who join later should do it as well, and say how many days they get.

With "Keep staff up to date", set how long after they last did it, for example "when it's been 2 years since they last did it". We show our suggestion for each course. Under "When to ask them", choose "A month before it's due", or "On the same date each year" if you do it at an INSET day. Then set a deadline for anyone who's due now. New starters are included, with 30 days to do it.

The course opens today unless you press "Change" by "Opens today". To add a note to the email staff get, press "+ Add a message for staff". Check the summary, then press Assign.

Everyone it's for gets an email with a link to the course, and it appears on their My learning page. We remind them 14 days before the deadline, then 7 and 21 days after it if they haven't finished. Anyone asked to do a course they've done before sees a Retake button on it.

If another assignment asks for the same course sooner, the sooner deadline is the one that counts.

You can also set courses from People. Tick people and press "Assign courses".
