About this collection
In a special school you may read a child's signals better than anyone, including children who can't tell you in words that something is wrong. That makes you one of the people most likely to notice when it is.
Safeguarding comes first. You'll get into the habit of asking how you'd read an injury or a change in mood if the child didn't have SEND, and learn when a mental health worry may point to abuse. From there it turns to everyday practice: helping a child who is safe feel safe, with role play and social stories, and routines that keep a class settled.
You'll also know what happens at TAC and EHCP review meetings, and how to share what you've seen so the other professionals can act on it.
