About this course
One former headteacher split his leadership meetings in two: a strategy meeting every few weeks, and a weekly one for the here and now. It stopped the long-term plans getting buried under each day's problems.
It's a habit you can copy in your own department. You'll see the difference between leading a department and managing one, and why a subject leader has to do both. The course then breaks the job into five parts, including setting a vision your team can get behind and leading on teaching, so you can see where you're strong and what's been slipping.
You'll come away clearer about what the role asks of you, and the meetings idea alone is worth trying before the end of term.
- For middle leaders. Post-16, primary, secondary and special.
