What you'll learn

  • Recognise the signs of ADHD, including in quieter pupils who daydream
  • Use cubes, whiteboards and a quiet talk partner to cut down shouting out
  • Reduce distractions with seating, now and next cards and visual timers
  • Gather the evidence needed to support an ADHD referral

About this course

A pupil who shouts out, fidgets with anything in reach, leaves tasks half done and doesn't seem to hear you can look like a behaviour problem. When your usual strategies stop working, you and that child can end up in a downward spiral.

First you'll get clear on what ADHD is and the signs to look for, including the quiet daydreamer who's easy to miss. Then come changes you can make tomorrow: five cubes a child "spends" each time they contribute on the carpet, a whiteboard to hold up instead of calling out, a seat facing a plain wall, and "now and next" cards with a timer.

You'll also know what evidence to gather through assess, plan, do, review, so that a referral has what it needs.

  • For early career teachers, parents and 2 other roles. All phases.
