About this course
More students are arriving at college with mental health needs, and staff are feeling it too: the Association of Colleges found 65% of colleges had seen more staff using wellbeing services. Knowing where to start on a whole-college approach is the hard part.
You'll get practical ideas for each of the eight principles, including leadership, staff development, student voice and working with parents. They include a page on your website telling parents and carers where to find help, a parents' evening with local services invited in, and a review of when students learn about mental health. Begin with an audit, then use the sample action plan to set a few goals with dates.
It's led by someone with more than 25 years in mental health, much of it in the NHS, who keeps it realistic. Start with one thing, and don't try to do it on your own.
- For early career teachers, mental health leads and 5 other roles. Post-16.
