- Build short resets into your working day before overwhelm sets in
- Share a mistake with your team so others can learn from it
- Ask "how are you?" twice to get past "fine" with colleagues
- Write a to-don't list to cut jobs that add busyness but not value
About this course
You probably notice straight away when a pupil is running on empty. Noticing it in yourself is harder, and doing something about it is harder still when there's always another email or another pile of marking.
None of this asks for a new lifestyle. You'll pick small changes you can keep up: five minutes eating lunch without talking about work, a mindful minute in the middle of a busy day, a "to-don't" list that clears out jobs adding busyness but not value. You'll also see how a team can make it normal to share mistakes, and to answer "how are you?" honestly, just by asking twice.
Looking after yourself isn't selfish, either. Pupils pick up a lot from watching how the adults around them treat their own sleep, food and exercise.
- For early career teachers, governors and 6 other roles. All phases.
