About this course

A policy in a drawer doesn't get anyone into school. What does is staff who use the same codes and chase the same things, data you look at while it can still change something, and parents who feel part of the plan rather than on the end of a letter.

Five steps (policy, personalise, practice, data and parents) help you turn good intentions into something staff and families can act on. You'll know how to get a policy people have actually read, and how to find out why each child is missing school so the plan fits them. You'll also have words that land with parents, like pointing out that a day off a week adds up to two weeks of lessons a term.

The advice comes from a former headteacher, and it works for a whole-school review as well as for one child's return-to-school plan.

  • For early career teachers, governors and 3 other roles. Post-16, primary, secondary and special.
