About this course
Pupil premium eligibility is a blunt measure. Plenty of eligible pupils are doing fine, some who aren't eligible are struggling, and a plan built for "the PP group" rarely helps any one child much.
The three-point plan keeps it practical: identify each pupil's barriers, choose strategies that match, then set success criteria you can check. On strategy it concentrates on cultural capital and vocabulary, because the word gap opens before school and widens as children go through it. You'll also get the hallmarks of interventions that work (brief, intensive, run by staff who know the pupils) and a downloadable list of common barriers.
One rule is worth the time on its own. If an aim is pastoral, like better attendance, tie it to an academic outcome, or you won't know whether the money worked.
- For governors, middle leaders and senior leaders. Post-16, primary and secondary. England only.
