About this course

Puberty lessons can make even experienced primary teachers nervous. What if someone asks something you can't answer, or the whole room dissolves into giggles?

Most of that is settled before the first lesson, with a group agreement the class writes together. You'll learn how to build one that covers personal questions, the words you'll use, who children can talk to afterwards and when you'd have to pass something on. It also gives them permission to laugh, then refocus. A question box where every child writes something means nobody stands out for asking, and you'll plan answers that are honest, factual and in line with your RSE policy.

Inclusion runs all the way through. That means children with SEND, children of different faiths, those who've had no puberty education before, and a non-binary child who shouldn't have to pick between a boys' session and a girls' one.

  • For governors and teachers. Primary.
