What you'll learn

  • Tell a multisensory Halloween story using low-cost props from home and the classroom
  • Use each part of the story to practise tracking, choosing, requesting and refusing
  • Adapt activities for children who are tactile defensive, using gloves or tongs
  • Run potion-making and Halloween maths that build counting and fine motor skills
  • Keep sensory sessions safe, with checks for allergies and choking hazards

About this course

A torch becomes the moon. An umbrella opened and shut overhead becomes the bats. Cooked spaghetti makes the worms, and a wrung-out dishcloth full of coffee grounds goes into the witch's pot.

You'll get a short rhyming Halloween story and learn to bring each line to life with things you probably have already. Each moment teaches something too: tracking a light, asking for more, turning something down, counting five worms into the cauldron. There are ideas for children who don't like touching messy things, and sensible reminders about allergies and choking hazards.

Then the week keeps going, with potion-making, Halloween maths, a sound-effects story and a spooky orchestra. It finishes with a relaxation script in which everyone flies home on a broomstick, which you may find you need yourself by Friday.

  • For early career teachers, parents and 3 other roles. Early years and primary.
