About this course
A child with a nut allergy tells you their tongue feels funny. Would you spot what's happening, and would you know what to do with the EpiPen?
After this course you will. You'll learn the early signs, like a tingling mouth, dribbling in younger children and a feeling that something awful is about to happen. You'll know what to do if a child collapses: legs raised, 999, adrenaline, and don't move them until a paramedic arrives, even if a parent gets there first. A school nurse demonstrates the auto-injector, with an easy way to remember it: top off, inject, hold for three seconds.
Just as useful is stopping a reaction before it starts. That might mean checking the cereal boxes brought in for junk modelling, thinking ahead about cookery lessons, or making sure supply staff know which children carry an auto-injector.
- For early career teachers, middle leaders and 4 other roles. All phases.
