About this course
Peer-on-peer abuse happens in every setting, from nursery to college, and it's easy to miss or pass off as banter. Staff need to believe it can happen here, and know what to do when it does.
An experienced safeguarding adviser and trainer helps you recognise the forms it takes, from bullying and sexual harassment to exploitation. You'll see why some children are at greater risk, including children with SEND, young carers, looked-after children and those seen as LGBTQ+. You'll look at contextual safeguarding, which means changing school systems to protect every child, not only moving the one who was harmed. And you'll find practical ways to make telling someone easier, like a safeguarding email address, drop-in times, and telling children directly where to get help.
And when it does happen, you'll know how to support the child who was harmed and still work with the child who caused the harm.
- For governors. Primary, secondary and special.
