What you'll learn

  • Respond to challenging behaviour with empathy instead of public warnings
  • Co-regulate with a dysregulated child using your breathing, tone and body language
  • Use a simple check-in scale so you know how pupils arrive
  • Set up reset spaces and sensory-aware classrooms that feel safe
  • Explain why punishment often makes behaviour worse over time

About this course

A pupil sits with arms crossed, staring away from the task. Warn them in front of the class and they'll probably dig in. If the real problem is dyslexia or anxiety, the threat of missing break doesn't help them start.

This webinar makes the case for kindness and nurture in behaviour management and shows you what it looks like in practice. You'll learn to open with empathy ("Looks like this might feel tricky right now. Can you help me understand?"), to co-regulate so a child catches your calm, and to use the "slow, low, low" voice with a child who has shut down. There are quick things to try tomorrow too, like a thumbs-up check-in at the door.

It's led by an autistic trainer who draws on her own experience of dysregulation. You'll also get a cheat sheet of kindness-based responses to common challenges.

  • For early career teachers, mental health leads and 6 other roles. All phases.
