About this course
A class can nail a task on Tuesday and have lost it by the following week. What they showed you was performance. Learning is what's still there weeks later, when pupils can use it somewhere new, and while it's happening it usually looks slower and messier.
Planning for the second kind starts here. You'll get a working definition of learning you can teach to, and a simple picture of how memory works: a lorry, a holding bay and a warehouse. From there comes a three-step approach to long-term learning that fits any lesson plan. There's a set of habits from research into expert teachers too, each with practical tips for building it.
It works as individual CPD, or as the starting point for a whole-school INSET on how pupils learn.
- For early career teachers and teachers. Post-16, primary and secondary.
