About this course
Plenty of children in Key Stage 2 can recite every grapheme and still come unstuck the moment they write on their own. Often it's because spelling teaching started too late, got squeezed off the timetable, or lived in weekly tests that never carried over into their writing.
This course gives you the subject knowledge a spelling scheme on its own won't. You'll see how morphology makes a word like 'definitely' easier once children spot 'finite' inside it, and why spelling strategies belong alongside phonics from Year 1 rather than after it. Simple props help too. Phonics mats that stay out in Key Stage 2, and a row of dots under any word a child isn't sure of, let them use ambitious vocabulary without fear.
It's taught by an English specialist and former headteacher who calls herself a poor speller, so she's clear that confidence matters as much as rules.
