About this course
A new pupil settles in well for a few weeks. Then the lying starts, work gets ripped up, chairs are thrown and other children get hurt. The usual behaviour strategies don't touch it, and staff start asking whether the school can cope.
When attachment disorder is behind it, the child is testing whether you'll give up on them, because experience has taught them adults can't be trusted. You can rebuild that trust. Give them a personal space in the classroom and a clear timetable, arrange a second trusted adult for the days you're away, and never shame them, even as a joke. Every day is a fresh start.
The course also covers the paperwork that helps keep a child in your school, from a support plan to high needs funding and an EHCP. There's a PowerPoint for talking it through with your team.
- For early career teachers, parents and 2 other roles. All phases.
