About this course
Picturing your autistic son or daughter leaving for university brings a long list of worries. Universities offer much more help than they used to, but most of it has to be asked for, and early.
This course comes from an autism specialist teacher whose own autistic daughter has been through university, and it gathers what other families found out the hard way. Apply for Disabled Students' Allowance as soon as you can, because it can pay for software, equipment and a regular study mentor. Take a folder of notes from school or college to the needs assessment, along with snacks and a favourite fidget toy if it helps. Ask about quiet halls, en-suite rooms and bursaries.
There are ideas for life once they're there too, like a shared budgeting spreadsheet and a "what to do if" folder for when you can't be.
