About this course

A meltdown is hard to miss: shouting, crying, a child who has lost it completely. Shutdown is quieter and easier to overlook, a child who withdraws and stops talking. Both mean the child has gone beyond what they can manage and needs you.

This course, from a presenter who is autistic, gives you a way to respond in those moments: safe, soothe, support. The bigger aim is helping the child get ahead of them, naming feelings with words, colours, a scale out of 10 or, for a non-verbal child, a squeeze of Play-Doh. You'll build self-soothe strategies and regular resets into the day, and learn to stay calm yourself so the child can borrow that calm.

The ideas help any child, and they help autistic children most of all.
