About this course
Ask teachers what undermines behaviour management and many will name inconsistency: a policy applied firmly in one classroom and loosely in the next, with too little backing from leaders. Ofsted's surveys of teachers found the same.
You'll tackle it at whole-school level. Agree the social norms you want every pupil to show. Then work through four stages: create the culture, communicate it, make it concrete in routines for corridors, canteen and classrooms, and keep it going until it's simply how things are done here. There's a clear take on the zero tolerance debate too, and advice on involving parents rather than just informing them.
It's written by a former headteacher, and works as well as the basis for an SLT discussion as it does for your own CPD.
- For governors, middle leaders and senior leaders. Post-16, primary, secondary and special.
