What you'll learn
- Run five low-cost bubble activities with someone with PMLD
- Offer real choices and give the person enough time to decide
- Build anticipation by waiting for a sound or movement before each count
- Use a switch with a bubble machine or foot spa to teach cause and effect
- Read a person's responses to tell what they enjoy and what they don't
About this course
Finding activities that someone with PMLD will really engage with can take a lot of trial and error, and a lot of kit. Most of what you need here is under the kitchen sink.
A teacher with 14 years in PMLD classrooms shows you five bubble activities, including long bubble snakes made with an old sock over a cut-off bottle. Each one stretches into a proper session. You'll offer choices of scent and colour, and give the person time to decide. You'll pause before each number in a count to three until they make a sound or a movement. And with a switch, they learn that pressing it makes the bubbles come.
It works at home, in a care setting or in a classroom. It's fun, too, and someone who's enjoying themselves takes in far more.
- For early career teachers, parents and 3 other roles. Special.
