What you'll learn
- Recognise the forms child-on-child abuse can take, online and in person
- Spot signs that a child may be being abused by another child
- Respond to nude image sharing without viewing the images yourself
- Challenge language that passes abuse off as banter or growing up
- Walk your school site as a child would to find unsupervised spots
About this course
'It's just banter.' 'Boys will be boys.' Child-on-child abuse often hides behind phrases like these, and a school with no reported cases may simply be one where children aren't telling anyone.
This course gives you a clear picture of what child-on-child abuse covers in Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE), from bullying and hazing to sexual harassment, upskirting and the sharing of nude images. You'll know the signs to watch for, what to do if a child tells you something, and why you should never view an image yourself but pass the concern straight to the DSL.
You'll also take away three things to put in place this term. Walk the site as a child would, from the bus stop to the quiet stairwell. Ask your school council where they feel unsafe. And set up your records so patterns in incidents show up.
- For early career teachers, middle leaders and 3 other roles. Early years, primary and special. England only.
