About this course
Punishments get handed out, the same pupils end up back outside the head's office, and nothing between the people involved has been put right. Restorative practice offers another route, but only if it's more than a quick chat after an incident.
In a whole-school approach, accountability means putting things right. You'll meet the idea of three truths (yours, mine and what actually happened) and the sequence of regulate, relate, reason and repair. You'll also see why building relationships through circles does more than repairing them after the event. There's practical advice on first steps too, whether you lead a school or teach one class.
It draws on years of work by a local authority restorative practice team alongside its schools, including how their thinking changed as they learned.
- For early career teachers, governors and 5 other roles. All phases.
