About this course
Children with ADHD have often been treated as naughty, and for decades autism was blamed on cold parenting. A little of the brain science behind both puts that to rest, and gives you firmer ground when someone says a child is choosing to behave this way.
You'll learn the signs of each, and how brain structure, function and chemistry differ, in plain English and without needing a science degree. There's help telling the two apart (missed developmental milestones point more towards autism), a look at how girls often mask autism, and where SEMH fits within SEND.
Most useful of all are three simple questions asked from the child's side: what's changed for me, how does it feel, and things would be better for me if what? They turn a label into something you can act on this afternoon.
- For early career teachers, governors and 6 other roles. All phases.
