About this course
When a child kicks, bites or refuses outright, it's hard not to take it personally, or to wonder what you're doing wrong. Your own stress rises too, and that makes the next move harder to get right.
This webinar gives you a way to see what's driving the behaviour. The EATS framework (escape, attention, tangibles and sensory needs) helps you pin down the need, and an ABC chart shows what happens before, during and after each incident. From there you can choose strategies that fit the child: everyday ones that keep them at their baseline, calm 'I wonder' language and tone for the build-up, and a personal plan for crisis.
What comes afterwards matters as much. Rush a child back to class and you can set off the next crisis. Take your time, expect shame to show up as denial or blame, and problem-solve together.
- For early career teachers, middle leaders and 5 other roles. Early years, primary, secondary and special.
