About this course

As a governor you hold the school to account for safeguarding, yet most of what you see arrives in a report written by the people you're checking. Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) gives the governing board its own duties, and part two is written for you.

An independent safeguarding trainer and adviser turns those duties into things you can do. Cross-check what you're told against data, visits and conversations with staff and pupils. Know what the single central record should show, and what to ask about online safety and child-on-child abuse. A refresher on the four main types of abuse means you know what staff are being asked to spot.

Every governor has a part in this, whatever your link area. Asking about online safety when you meet a subject leader counts, and a safeguarding box on your visit form is an easy place to start.

  • For early career teachers, governors and 5 other roles. All phases.
