About this course
Signs of mental ill health in people with profound and multiple learning disabilities are easily missed. A young man bangs his head against a wall and a member of staff says he's autistic, he does that, as if that were the reason. Low mood that has lasted for years stops looking like a change, so nobody questions it.
You'll understand why this group is so much more vulnerable, and what you can do about it in an ordinary day. The ideas are simple and cost nothing. Rather than just handing someone their favourite sparkly fabric, bring it to them in its box and open it within arm's reach, so there's something to look forward to as well as enjoy.
The presenter is a former special school teacher who spent six months reading all the research on this group, so you don't have to.
- For early career teachers, mental health leads and 5 other roles. Early years, primary, secondary and special.
