About this course

Someone in your team has gone quiet, snaps at things that never used to bother them, or has started counselling and can't see how to fit it round a timetable. Plenty of staff won't bring this up with their line manager, so the first move is often yours.

You'll learn the signs of the four conditions most common among school staff: anxiety, depression, OCD and PTSD. You'll find out how to have the conversation well (after school, somewhere private, with time to spare) and which well-meant phrases make people clam up. Then there are reasonable adjustments, such as a later start while new medication settles or a free afternoon for therapy.

The course comes from a secondary teacher who has written a book on staff mental health. There are four organisations to signpost colleagues to as well, including a free 24-hour helpline.

  • For governors and mental health leads. All phases.
