About this course

Benedict Blythe was five when he died of anaphylaxis at school in 2021, after being given milk. His family's campaign for Benedict's Law is about making sure every adult in a school has the allergy awareness to act. A reaction can happen in a corridor, on a trip or at an after-school club, with whoever happens to be there.

You'll learn the 14 major allergens, how to tell when a mild reaction is turning into anaphylaxis, and what to do next. Call 999, give the auto-injector into the outer thigh (through clothing if need be) and stay with the child. If in doubt, treat it as anaphylaxis.

You'll also look at the everyday habits that prevent reactions, from healthcare plans people have actually read to checking ingredients when there's an unfamiliar face serving lunch. A staffroom poster and a class allergy record for cover staff come with it.

  • For early career teachers, governors and 7 other roles. All phases.
