About this course
Schools aren't building sites, but tens of thousands of accidents to education staff in Great Britain are reported every year. Stress, back pain and aches from crouching over small desks account for many more days off.
This course gives you a practical way to look at your own workspace. You'll learn the difference between a hazard and a risk, and a simple order for dealing with one: remove it if you can, reduce it if you can't, then manage what's left. You'll check your room for trip hazards, damaged cables and blocked exits, and plan everyday jobs like putting up a display so nobody ends up standing on a desk. There's a template to download for planning your own tasks.
You'll also cover the basics of asbestos, electrical safety, computer workstations and fire, including what to do when the alarm goes and which pupils have a personal emergency evacuation plan.
- For early career teachers, governors and 7 other roles. All phases.
