About this course

If you've been timetabled for RSHE on top of your own subject, the worry usually isn't the lesson plan. It's the question from the back row about porn, or the personal one aimed at you.

You don't need to be an expert in every topic. You need to prepare, set your own views aside and run the room well. This course shows you how, from someone who has spent most of her career teaching it. Build a group agreement with your class that includes "no personal questions", so you've always got something to point back to. Use named sticky notes or a question box to buy thinking time and catch any safeguarding worries. And have a plain, factual answer ready for the question asked just to get a laugh.

You'll also be clear on what the statutory framework asks of schools, including parents' right to withdraw from sex education.

  • For early career teachers and teachers. Secondary. England only.
