About this course

If you support pupils with high needs, their day can easily become yours. You eat lunch in a staffroom where the talk is all about them, you barely see daylight, and when the holidays come you're too worn out to enjoy them.

The five ways to wellbeing (be active, connect, keep learning, take notice and give) are all here, each fitted into ordinary school time without finding extra hours. A ten-minute walk off site after lunch. Sitting next to a teaching assistant from another key stage for once. Learning Makaton, or how the assessment framework your pupil is judged against works. Looking properly at the tree outside while the photocopier runs.

Several of the ideas you can do with the pupils you support, like a jar on each table for loose change towards a charity you care about, which makes them far easier to keep up.

  • For governors, middle leaders and support staff. All phases.
