About this course
The EEF rates metacognition among the highest-impact things a school can do, especially for disadvantaged pupils. Getting it to change what happens in classrooms is the hard part. One teacher goes on a course, there's a staff meeting, a few departments make their own version, and by next term everyone has moved on.
So this is really about implementation. The model comes from a trust's teaching and learning lead and a research school director. They built layers of support around the training, with a senior implementation lead and a team in every school, regional leads covering several schools, and recorded sessions each school fitted into its own CPD. You'll also pick apart a made-up case of a keen new teaching and learning lead, and spot where it goes wrong.
Use it to map your own theory of change and find the weak links before they break.
- For early career teachers, governors and 5 other roles. Primary, secondary and special.
