About this course

Every family has rows, but when your child fights nearly every request, at home and at school, month after month, it wears everyone down. Your child might have a diagnosis of ODD (oppositional defiant disorder), or you might just be wondering. Either way, it isn't your fault or theirs.

You'll find out how ODD differs from ordinary defiance, why it often comes alongside ADHD, and why punishment tends to make things worse. Then come tools for everyday life. Praise the small things, like shutting the fridge door. Say 'Close the door, thank you' rather than asking a question that invites a no. Agree a private code word that tells your child to take a breath, and give a five-minute warning before the TV goes off.

There's time for you too, with ideas for looking after yourself and UK organisations you can call, such as Contact and Family Lives.
