About this course

A child tells you something at lunchtime that doesn't sit right. The natural thing is to promise it'll stay between you, or to ask a question that puts words in their mouth, and both can make things harder for the child.

You'll cover the basics of safeguarding in a primary school, based on KCSIE 2026. That means the four main types of abuse and the signs of each, and which children need an extra eye kept on them. When a child does speak to you, you'll know to use open questions such as "tell me more about that" and to write down what they said in their own words.

You'll also know how to get a concern to your DSL the same day, even if you work in the kitchen and don't have a login to the school's recording system.

  • For early career teachers, governors and 6 other roles. Primary. England only.
