About this course

The first sign of trouble might be a Year 10 with a second phone and cash nobody can explain, or a comment made in passing as the bell goes. You could be holding the one piece of the jigsaw nobody else has.

This introduction to safeguarding for secondary schools takes you through the four main types of abuse and how they can show up in 11 to 18-year-olds. It also explains which pupils need closer attention, and your part in family help. Child-on-child abuse, online safety, radicalisation and low-level concerns about adults are here too.

If a pupil does tell you something, you'll know what to do: listen, believe them, don't promise to keep it secret, and pass it straight to your designated safeguarding lead. You'll also know which parts of Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) you're expected to read.
