About this course

Everyone in a school handles personal data, whether it's the register or a child's medical notes. Most of the time it's routine. Then someone asks if they can share allergy details with another school before a joint trip, or an attachment goes to the wrong person, and nobody's quite sure what the rules are.

This course explains UK GDPR in plain English, with school examples. You'll learn what counts as personal and special category data, when you can lawfully use or share it, and why asking for consent isn't always the right basis. You'll also know how to spot a data breach and who to tell, and how to handle a parent asking to see or delete what you hold.

It comes with eight practical tips for keeping data secure, and a PowerPoint if you want to run the session for colleagues.

  • For early career teachers, governors and 7 other roles. All phases.
