About this course
Every class seems to have one: the child who trips over nothing, knocks the paint pot flying and grips a pencil so awkwardly that handwriting is a battle. Dyspraxia is thought to affect around one in ten pupils, yet it's one of the least recognised needs in school. And when a bright child can't get their ideas onto paper, they can start to feel like a failure.
You'll learn to spot it, including a simple walking test you can do in the classroom, and how to raise it gently with parents. You'll know when to bring in an occupational therapist and what helps afterwards, from motor skills groups that feel like a mini PE lesson to pencil grips and sloping boards.
- For early career teachers, middle leaders and 5 other roles. All phases.
