About this course
Plenty of schools launch retrieval practice at a September INSET and find by the spring that it's patchy or forgotten. Making it part of how everyone teaches takes years.
This is one secondary school's route, from a teaching and learning framework with no basis in research to staff who read and carry out research themselves. You'll see how to pick three or four priorities that fix your school's own problems. Then you'll train staff in the 'active ingredients' of each strategy, the parts that have to be done closely for it to work. Keeping it alive takes more: voluntary research twilights that earn staff flexible INSET days, departmental time, interview questions, and appraisal that lets teachers take risks.
It's taught by a former assistant headteacher for teaching and learning who now leads professional development across a large trust.
- For early career teachers, middle leaders and 2 other roles. Primary and secondary.
