About this course

Some parents see the school's name come up on their phone and feel sick. School didn't go well for them, and now every call seems to mean their child has done something wrong. These are often the families of the children you most need to work with.

It helps to turn "hard to reach" around and ask what makes your school hard for them to reach. The quickest way in is changing what they hear from you: a text or call about something that went right, even a lesson that passed without trouble. You'll also think about who on your staff a family might trust (often not the most senior person), meeting them away from school, and making every contact worth their time.

None of it needs a budget. Over time it can change how a whole family feels about school, younger brothers and sisters included.

  • For governors, senior leaders and support staff. All phases.
