About this course

The child who hears "that's cool" and thinks you mean cold. The one who can't join a conversation without taking it over, or who hits out because they can't tell you what they need. These can all be signs of autism, and in school you're often best placed to notice them.

What helps is often simple. Personal visual timetables, "now and next" boards with an hourglass, a box of sensory things under the desk, and plenty of concrete and pictorial work in maths before anything abstract. You'll also learn how to raise concerns with parents without using the word autism too soon.

Assess, plan, do, review is explained clearly too, including why it's worth starting early if a pupil might later need an EHCP.

  • For early career teachers, parents and 2 other roles. All phases.
