- Phrase instructions around what you want a learner to do
About this course
A boy fought over his coat peg every morning, and it was the first thing that happened in his day. He didn't have one of his own. Small things like that tell a learner whether they belong, and a learner who doesn't feel they belong finds it much harder to learn or stay well.
You'll look at inclusion as part of what's ordinarily available to everyone in the room. The ideas are practical. Put a talking tin on the desk with the next instruction recorded, or a waterproof core board outside. Seat an anxious learner somewhere quieter, because anxiety takes up the working memory they need for the task. Tell a child what they can do instead of what they can't.
The presenter is a former headteacher and consultant who works across mainstream and special schools, and the parent of a child who finds school hard.
- For early career teachers, mental health leads and 3 other roles. Early years, primary, secondary and special.
