About this course
Plenty of primary teachers still carry a bit of dread about maths from their own school days, and children pick up on it fast. A lesson that drifts off course, or a question you can't answer on the spot, can knock you for weeks.
Most of that confidence comes from preparation. You'll check what your class covered the year before and what comes next, so you can break an objective into small steps, and try a lesson's questions yourself before the children see them. If you've planned for the four or five ways a child might get stuck, you've got a picture, a concrete resource or a different question ready when they do.
There's help for the lesson that goes wrong too: how to spot it early, when to stop and start again, and how to make small changes you can build on.
- For early career teachers, teachers and teaching assistants. Primary.
