About this course
Every teacher says they have high expectations. The difference shows in small moments: whether the pupil who said 'I don't know' is let off, whether a nearly-right answer is accepted, whether a first draft counts as finished.
You'll turn the idea into habits. You'll look at the research behind the Pygmalion effect, and its opposite, then at routines such as no opt-out, insisting that right is right, and following a correct answer with a harder question. You'll also see how to keep pupils motivated with a clear model to aim at and regular checkpoints, and how class critique and redrafting raise the standard of everyone's work.
It's presented by an experienced English teacher, who explains motivation through his own reluctant return to exercise on a treadmill he couldn't face for more than 15 minutes.
- For early career teachers, governors and teachers. Post-16, primary and secondary.
