What you'll learn
- Plan culture change deliberately instead of hoping it happens from the bottom up
- Focus first on the factors that most harm staff wellbeing, like workload
- Write down your culture in a short anchor document staff will actually read
- Build it into induction, meetings, policies and processes
- Model your values when they clash with the quicker, easier option
About this course
Ask two members of staff in the corridor what it means to work at your school. Would they give the same answer, and is it the one on your website? That gap between paper and practice is where most staff wellbeing plans stall.
Leaders can close it, but only by planning for it. Start with what most damages wellbeing, such as workload and staff not feeling supported, rather than extras bolted on top. Then comes a three-part approach: make the culture explicit in a short document people will read, communicate it more often than feels reasonable, and model it yourself.
The real test comes when your values clash with the quick option. You'll think through what staff learn from the choice you make.
- For middle leaders and senior leaders. All phases.
