About this course
How do you tell a pupil who can't say where it hurts that the pain will pass? Or prepare them for a first period or a trip to the dentist? This second part takes on the parts of the SEND planning framework that are hardest to make concrete: changing and growing, healthy lifestyles, and the world around them.
The ideas are practical, and some are very funny. One class plastered their legs together in art so a pupil dreading his next cast could laugh about it. A shaving song to Row, Row, Row Your Boat makes a disliked routine familiar, and a story massage helped one anxious woman through an outpatients appointment without shouting.
Personal care may be part of a pupil's whole life, so there are ways to make it less invasive, and to read small signs of pain and tiredness with the people who know each pupil.
- For early career teachers, middle leaders and 4 other roles. All phases.
