About this course

Older learners are often good at hiding harm. Abuse that has gone on for years can start to feel normal, a controlling boyfriend or girlfriend can look like an ordinary relationship, and a young adult may not see what's happening to them as abuse at all.

This safeguarding course is written for colleges and sixth forms. It covers learners under 18 and vulnerable adults with care and support needs, and the four main types of abuse and their signs. You'll learn what professional curiosity looks like in practice, so you don't assume someone else will have noticed. If a learner does confide in you, you'll know what to do: reassure them, don't promise confidentiality, record what they said in their own words, and speak to the designated safeguarding lead straight away.

It's up to date with KCSIE 2025, including the new focus on online harms such as deepfakes.
