About this course

Ask a staff room to explain the difference between equality and equity and you'll get a lot of different answers. Without a shared language, EDI work in schools tends to stall at a display board and an assembly.

You'll come away with the concepts and a sensible place to start. That means the nine protected characteristics in the Equality Act, privilege and allyship, and inclusive language, including what to do when you get someone's pronouns wrong (say sorry and move on). For the whole school, the advice is to gather your data before you set priorities, review the curriculum a year group at a time, and make the most of PSHE. There's also a look at unconscious bias and simple checks like blind marking.

It's led by a former teacher who spent 15 years at one school, finishing as its director of diversity and inclusion.

  • For early career teachers, governors and 7 other roles. All phases.
