About this course
Worried you'll use the wrong word, or won't know what a pupil means when they tell you they're non-binary, asexual or questioning? Plenty of people feel the same, and the fear of getting it wrong can stop a useful conversation before it starts.
Taking the acronym one letter at a time, you'll see why gender identity, gender expression and sexual orientation are separate things, what cis and trans mean, and how social and physical transition differ. You'll also understand why a word like queer is embraced by some people and still hurts others, and why the plus matters: people choose their own labels.
You'll come away able to follow what young people and colleagues are telling you, and to respond with respect instead of guesswork.
- For early career teachers, governors and 6 other roles. Post-16, primary, secondary and special.
