About this course

Sitting in on a languages lesson when your own subject is maths, it's hard to tell what good looks like. You can see what the teacher does, but not always why.

Pedagogy, the thinking behind the teaching, is the focus here. You'll practise spotting it in our recorded lessons and consider how learning differs between subjects: grammar rules aren't remembered the way a quadratic equation is. Then you'll turn to the teacher, using Hoyle's idea of extended professionality and Brookfield's lenses to help them see their lessons through their own eyes, their colleagues', and the research.

Done this way, observation gives teachers something to keep thinking about long after you've left the room.

  • For governors, middle leaders and senior leaders. All phases. England only.
